Movement and Dreams

I'm here at my desk updating my website and answering emails and I thought of this image that I just uploaded.

On of the newest BlackHill Family members came into my studio and helped me create this. I'm in awe of what elegance, grace and determination can create.

BlackHill started with determination. And a small camera. Through practice, I refined my craft. Through determination I worked past any obstacles I encountered. And the remaining end result is what you see today. I'm just  trying to say thanks. Movement and dreams. Combined you can create reality.

Early morning thoughts.

upload.jpeg

it's currently 6:05am on a Saturday morning. The typical person would be deep in slumber, and I wish I can be a part of that. But instead I've been up for the past hour in my computer editing.

Your typical photo session doesn't just involve the time we spend together. It also involves my time in the editing room perfecting your images. And I absolutely love that. It's part of the job that no one really sees, but everyone appreciates when they see the final product.

Is it easy waking up this early regularly for my clients? No. But it is something I  gladly do because I know the excitement my client has as they wait in anticipation to see what the results are of my hard work. And for that I am forever grateful.

But that's enough talk.  Let me get back to work. Now, where's the coffee...

The DJ Life

I have had a pretty interesting life before I began this journey into photography. And it's always interesting looking back at where this little adventure has taken me.  But it's also pretty cool to see how the journey of life takes your friends to unexpected places. Take DJ Tone-E for example.

Before my photography and his music, we were friends because of a completely different passion altogether. Volkswagens. Seriously. Don't ask me why, I just love them. They are awesome. As we continued growing up, he picked up a turntable and I picked up a camera. And through hard work, we have succeeded in our professions.

Now, years later, we have come full circle as he visited my studio for the last photoshoot of 2015. The growth in our respective arts was noticeable as we reminisced about the early days when we studied our craft. And the joy to see each other's success was extremely rewarding.  Until our next photoshoot. God bless and good luck in everything we do!

Things to think about for the new year.

Wow. This year is done. Every year has been busier than the last and that is a great problem to have. I became a father for the second time! This year saw some amazing changes. I opened my studio in Passaic. I established an amazing makeup and hair team. And I was blessed to shoot some amazing people. Like Brianne here. Definitely good times.

But what amazed me are the friendships that I created this year. I'm sincerely blessed. And the excitement on my heart for next year. Stay tuned guys. Especially now that I can blog from my phone!

Doing Something Crazy

Have you ever done something crazy? I mean the kind of crazy that in the aftermath all you can do is look around and ask yourself what just happened? It's not just me is it?

Well. Let me tell you what's going on in my life. My wonderful wife is pregnant with our first child together and it's an amazing experience. At the same time, I handled problems near and far the best way I know how. One at a time and in my own silence. All problems have been solved. Now that that is over, what happens? I decide to make the big move and open my own photo studio!!!!

A place I can call my own. I place where I can create with no boundaries and limitations. Where if something breaks it is only on me. AND I am perfectly fine with that. At first I want to say I am scared. But honestly, I'm not. I know hard work will pay off. I have my faith and my wife to keep me from going insane.

And that's the interesting thing. I have my faith and that has soothed me in my toughest moments. That is why I felt this is the right time to do this. I'm scared...but excited. Not because of what might happen. But because of the journey that I believe God is taking me. And trust me. My journey to where I'm at today has been a very interesting one. Maybe I'll write about that next time. Stay tuned everyone. And just wait to see what crazy thing I do next!

Behind The Scenes Shenanigans

OK, I'll admit it. I love what I do. Really. I get to work with some world class talent at the same time have an absolute blast in the process. What more can I ask for?

While shooting Erika a couple of weeks ago made me think about a lot of things. Can you really call this work?

I should smile more. :-)

I should smile more. :-)

The atmosphere is always light and fun and exciting. At the same time I get a chance to meet new friends. Anyone who works with me becomes a member of my BlackHill Family. And I do take that seriously. Every person I have worked with, so far, has become a part of my life and always for the better. Creating new memories is always worth the effort.

Music is always playing, smiles are always shared. InstaGram selfies are taken. And this is work?

Besides spending it with friends I always end up with spending it with my incredible assistant/Wife. My rock. My reason that BlackHill blossomed. She is a true blessing in my life and her smile is absolutely contagious.

So I work with my best friend. And we share laughs together as we make new friends. And I love my life for that. I'll  talk to you guys later.

God Bless...

New Year, New Dreams

I told myself I was going to write this on New Years Day. But instead life decided to keep me busy the beginning of the year. :-)

As each day progresses, I have been fine-tuning my vision for BlackHill and what that means to me.

At first my goal was " I want to take pictures!". As the years progressed and I learned different techniques and methods to use light, my goals changed. Now, years later, I have a more fine tuned goal that is more than " I want to take pictures."

"I want to capture the moments of your life that brings out your inner beauty and place it center stage for the world to see..."

I long for those moments. Those moments when I capture the small nuances of your physical features and combine them with light to capture the type of beauty that many find so hard to see for themselves.

I am blessed to have been giving this talent. I am far from confident with my art. I just need to express myself artistically. And in my eyes, the whole world is my canvas. Stay tuned. Let's see what I come up with next.

God Bless.

Snow Day!!!

So the northeast is getting bombarded with snow as we speak and that can only mean a couple of things...Time to play catch up on my editing! :-)

It's been a long day, but a very fulfilling day. Lots of edits, uploads, returning emails, getting my upcoming shoots finalized and, of course, spending quality time with the family.

In the end everything that photography has brought into my life is for my family. Everything. They have been the greatest supporters of my vision. And because of them, failure is not an option.

BlackHill continues to grow on a daily basis. Because of my supporters, my believers and my clients who have given me the opportunity to practice my craft. I guess I just want to say thanks. Anyway, I got to go. My son wants to me to play Minecraft with him. :-)

I'll talk to you later. God Bless.

The Importance of a Headshot

If you are an actor going in and out of auditions, then you know the importance of your headshots. Don't you?

They are the first images a casting director sees of you. The image that will help them decide if they will want you in their upcoming production. That image has the potential to make or break your career in your chosen field.

It is important to have an image that represents you at your very best, but also at your most natural. Your most relaxed look to show them that you are comfortable. Not in front of a camera, but in front of anybody.

You must be able to have images that reflect the various emotions and personalities that they will ask you to portray. Whether happy and full of joy. To somber and depressed. To the average joe next door. That one image must represent all that...and I am responsible to take that image for you.

If you keep going to auditions without any callbacks, it might not be you. It might be your headshot...think about that. Now think of what I can do for you. :-). Have a good night and stay blessed.

A Little Something About Myself

I kind of made a promise to myself to stay as honest as possible when I write a blog post. I'm not sure if I'll ever offend anyone but if does let me apologize now. Sorry.

Photography is an art form. like painting and other forms of art, the tools are pretty much the same and important to the final product. Technique and concepts are also very important. If I didn't know the basic fundamentals of lighting and camera techniques, then how would my work ever come out the way I wanted?

But, just like other art forms, there is something else that is important to a finished product that no amount of technique or equipment equals. And that is the artistic vision of the artist. I could have, and use, all the greatest equipment out there. Or I could go to all the best photography schools and attend seminars of some great photographers. But, without my own vision of what I want in an image, it's all for nothing.

That's what it all comes down to it. Phew...

Now that I got that all out of the way, I hope you guys are enjoying my website. Stay tuned for more images as they come up. :-)

And So It Begins

Wow. I can't believe it's out there. It's official and now it's all about the hard work needed to take my dream to the next level.

My website mainly focuses on my modeling and headshot portfolio. My blog will host my stories behind everything else. My family portraits, weddings, children, and all other miscellaneous projects that come along my way.

It will also be a place to hold my random thoughts involving the creative process behind my  images. Some inspirations that make me want to strive to reach higher in this creative field. One way or another, it's going to be a fun ride.
